Ah. I think we're onto something. The messages that cause me trouble are all
addressed to domains with no MX record or no DNS record at all (at least the
four or five I checked today--insitecomm.com, adcolor.inc (?), smurfs.com,
limeforspring.com, sanasya.com). They're not domains under my control. What
am I doing wrong that keeps IMS from recognizing these as bad domains? Is
this a reverse DNS lookup thing I've got set wrong?

That is caused by a mail loop. A mail loop occurs when an SMTP server is
configured in an MX record for a domain but is not configured to accept mail
to that domain. The server then winds up sending mail to itself in a loop.

In your case, I would suspect that insitecomm.com has an MX record that
points to your server but your server is not configured to accept mail for
insitecomm.com.
