Was netdev enabled in the default build?, If I remember correctly Jimmy said it was experimental. That's why it contains some bugs and "features". This is one of those "features". If you are not using it directly, don't worry, disable it and the problem is gone :). Jimmy: is this long sleep introduced because of some issue with the device detection?
