The last time I recall this being suggested, we were at a point of
transitioning to SVN.  If GNOME had supported SVN at that point, we said
it'd be worth transitioning to GNOME SVN, but at the time GNOME had no
plans to set up SVN, so that killed the idea.

Actually we don't have problems finding translators -- our translation
team is doing great as they are; we just want to recruit additional
people for languages we don't already cover, and felt that there might
be some people in the GNOME translation team who might also like having
the opportunity to translate Inkscape for their language.  I understand
that not having Inkscape in the GNOME repository gives them an
additional step to have to take, and some won't want to do that, but I
imagine at least some care enough about Inkscape that they will still
wish to do the translation work, and won't mind using our processes.

If it really is the case that they can't use any repository other than
GNOME's for some reason, we could simply place a copy of Inkscape in
GNOME CVS for them to work from, and then copy the translations back to
our own tree later.
