"The bottom line in all of this is what is our basis of authority? Is it God's unchanging word, or is it fashionable social trends?"
This is a 'disingenuous' argument. You either believe this or you believe that... there is no other point of view!
Well - I do not believe that God's word is unchanging
- I do believe that the bible is normative for Christianity
- I do not believe that Christianity should be subject to "fashionable social trends" (though it often is in practice)
- I do believe that God speaks in the present as well as the past!
- I do believe that everyone interprets, whether they say they do or not
- I do not believe that we can never make any firm moral or
political statements as Christians, informed by and tested against
scripture.
The way I see it my views do not fit into the author's categories - it could be that I am wrong and my views should fit his categories - or it could be
that his categories are incomplete!
- echoing the concerns raised for a 'third way'

Greetings Andrew etal I took the time to read the article and I wasn't sure whether to laugh or cry. But I do know people like Bill and I have to say that I do not know one of them that I could describe as a happy person. Life is lived in constant fear of backsliding into sin which is of course for them, our natural state. John has summed up the two different approaches very accurately in his reply to my comments. To use Matthew Fox's term, its the difference between original sin and original blessing. Life as a blessing is much more fun.
Grace and Peace. Allan

It's a worry. I recommend people read the article, EMU members and
sympathisers particularly. But make sure you are feeling strong
first. Not late at night after a hard day, or on your precious and
inadequate time off. For many that will now mean Tuesday. It's at
