Rev John Barr and UCA President Dean Drayton attended the Bali Memorial
Service on Sunday 12th October, representing the Uniting Church in
Australia, which has a partnership relationship with the Protestant
Christian Church in Bali. They met with PM John Howard and Opposition
Leader Simon Crean, along with a number of Indonesian leaders. John
reflected that the service at the Sari Club site in Kuta on Sunday
evening (to coincide with the actual anniversary of bomb blast at
11.08pm on the 12th October 2002) was very moving. The local Hindu
community organised and led the service. Local Christian groups also
joined together to stage a number of services in Denpasar. Dean and John
attended one of these services and Dean gave a message. There were
around 4,000 people at this meeting, an even larger crowd than had been
at the Memorial Service on Sunday morning and the Kuta service on Sunday
evening.

There are opportunities for people to support the work of the partner
church in Bali through the People in Mission program. One placement is
with the English speaking congregations. This placement requires a UCA
Minister able to work in a congregation, who can be available for three
months or more. The placement will provide an opportunity to move beyond
being a 'tourist' and engage with the diverse ministries offered by the
partner church. For more information, contact Sandy Boyce, People in
Mission Coordinator, Ph 8236 4240, [EMAIL PROTECTED]
