I thought Miranda Devine's article was no joke and of some interest though
nothing new. Its going to become clear that church did play a significant
role in a number of peoples lives in the 50's & 60's when the kids often
went to church and youth groups even though their parents did not attend
church. The only place kids have got to go now is the pub. There is a lot of
research around now that points to the positives of connectedness that the
community can provide in a young persons life. The church community did and
can provide this particularily if it is lacking in other areas.
Connectedness with family, friends and community has been shown to provide
resilience against risky behaviour such as drink, drugs and at its worst
suicide. As for her comments about the babyboomers not accepting
responsibility for negating some of the values and standards of previous
generations, as a babyboomer I agree with her. Remember it was the ME
generation.

Subject: Final confirmation that Miranda Devine is not a real journalist

It's Sunday morning 6:00 am and I haven't slept much,
decided to quickly look at the smh online and saw
an article by Miranda Devine which is usually good for
a laugh... (It was supposed to have something to do with
religion)

After a bit of a tirade bemoaning the world's general
decent into hopelessness - there was this bit about
John Laws... including

http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2003/11/15/1068674433713.html

Honey-voiced and big-hearted, he has created an entertaining mix of
opinion, idiosyncrasy and country music few in radio can match. At 68,
he is an inspiration to a grey generation, the so-called New Old, who
will remain relatively healthy and vital into their 80s. This
hitherto-ignored demographic is willing to spend money and exercise
power, no longer content to slink meekly into obscurity.

Bits of it seemed like a PR excercise for John Laws -

I still have no idea why the smh pay her
niall
