I'll weigh in with another topic. Can we stand two going at the same time?

About 6 weeks ago I 'opened' the national list of a small Christian
organisation for which I am webmaster, so that everyone could send messages
to everyone else.

A few weeks ago I had to shut down the list because it became unmanagable;
completely over-the-top untenable to many people on it. You should have seen
the complaints!!!!

The issues:
(1) They were getting two or three messages a day;
(2) Some of the messages were obviously intended to be between two people
and the others were able to see the exchange, too.

Now, I know and you all know that this is exactly how Insight-L runs. I had
even explained this to them in what were, I thought, clear terms. Yet, it
freaked many of them. The "take me off" messages were reaching plague
proportions.

We are now back to one office-initiated email every week or two. There are
no longer any complaints. Normality is restored.

When is a list intimidating to you?

Peter
