My first speech to a presbytery on this issue was in 1980, when Sydney Presbytery debated whether or not to allow Paddington to lease an unused church in Cleveland St Redfern to Metropolitan Community Church. I was a pastoral assistant at Paddington while awaiting placement. The Presbytery agreed to the lease, then at the next meeting rescinded their decision, and set up a task group to look at the issue of homosexuality. I was a member of that task group. Paddington had been host to Metropolitan Community Church for several years at that stage. It went on being host for several years afterwards. The Presbytery fortunately could not tell us not to let them use our church - only that we could not give them a lease. So instead of MCC going off to Redfern to their own property, they continued to share our church in Paddington, with their name and services clearly displayed on our noticeboard, with its UCA logo. If anyone turned up to evening service expecting the UCA, they found the MCC instead. So thanks to Presbytery, we have been making our inclusive stance clear for a very long time. Ann (Rev.
