KENT: i would have thought that niall's framing of the dicussion in the subject line was quite telling given that her grievance is that she doesn't believe her voice is being heard.
NIALL:
when someone doesn't believe their voice is being heard (one of the biggest evils in the Uniting Church - or so I've heard) - I tend to ask 'not being heard by whom?' In this case, is the author not being heard by the church (an institution), the broader community (who might read the SMH, her cousin GP or her network of friends and family (assuming this exists) -
Is George Pell's cousing important? Of course. Are her feelings valid? - almost certainly Does engaging in a public discussion do more to hurt relationships that seem already frayed? - I suspect so
Thanks to those who submitted GP's response - but I was probably unclear about his response. I meant, will GP repond in a personal way - perhaps over a cup of columbian coffee and some whistful music (Susan Vega comes to mind). I hope so, and I hope they patch up their differences - I just don't want to read about it in the newspaper!

FP omits to mention Jesus' instruction to the woman herself: "Go and sin no more" - which seems to be a common oversight these days.
So, to link it with another current thread, there is a problem with hermeneutics in all this: "What is the Bible - or God through the Bible - actually saying to us today?"
Shalom, Sue
or
Jesus straightened up and asked her, "Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?" "No one, sir," she said. "Then neither do I condemn you," (NIV)
i would have thought that niall's framing of the dicussion in the subject line was quite telling given that her grievance is that she doesn't believe her voice is being heard. playing off injustices, perceived or otherwise, against each other is the kind of thing i'm very uncomfortable participating in.
does God have a hierarchy of injustice?
all this isn't meant necessarily as a constructive contribution, just my responses to some of this discussion so far.
