Public execution is still used in Iran and Saudi Arabia to intimidate the masses. It is impossible to verify how many of the executed are guilty of the 'crimes' they die for. They may be completely innocent of the purported crime , but they are no less sinful than you or I. I have seen the film, and felt that it was rather too gory. "The Turramurra Passion", just finished its sixth season, is more faithful to the gospel record, despite some scenes being intentionally modernised.
