who said reality wasn't depressing ... sometimes

for instance, ignoring the churches' reality for a moment, Leeds United are about to be relegated; that's reality with which I'm coming to terms ... slowly; but I'm finding it a bit depressing

i had lunch with someone pretty wise today who said the collapse of the church/es could be a good thing -- so not depressing (some wonderful things could come from the "resurrection", it's not our church, it's god's church after all); but i still found that program depressing (anyway I only caught the end of it because I was waiting up for the glorious w*** that is Critical Mass, which was a lot of fun)

sw

john butler trio is finishing off rove and i'm off to bed to read some  more of andrew mcgahan's "the white earth" which isn't bad at all

did anyone see this on the weekend?

i thought it was really depressing

Yes Stephen, I watched it and was rather interested having passed through
Corryong a week or so ago. I found it to be realistic rather than
depressing. The reallity is that the Churches are in decline and that is
more noticeable in rural communities where there is not the volume of young
people to draw on. This is very noticeable in the Catholic/Anglican/UCA
churches and although some Baptists are faring a little better, they too are
seeing their members getting older and having trouble supporting ordained
ministry. Pentecostal and Charismatic churches tend to rise and fall but are
not having much success either overall.
