Hi Judy - in this age of spin doctoring and
slashed ABC budgets, it's difficult not to be just a bit cynical about
the claims in the Compass program of unprecedented
cooperation. I wonder - is it just possible that
the ABC regurgitated "information" lifted from Harvest Ministries (or
HH) media releases or interviews without spending
time doing some research?? . . . :-)
Sue reminds those who watched (or
recorded) the program that the HH organisation claim that 282 out of 300 Hunter
churches across all denominations were involved!!!!
Although I don't have any knowledge of a
Presbytery "position" to the call for support for this event (if
any), there was no obvious promotion or appeal
for assistance or support of any kind within my UCA
congregation during the leadup to Hunter Harvest. In fact, without the
enormously successful bumper sticker campaign I'm sure HH could have
escaped the attention of some members of our church community altogether.
(On the other hand, my perceptions don't take into
account the possible participation by one or more individuals from within
our congregation.)
Coincidently (and somewhat ironically), we are holding
a Men's Breakfast this Saturday and have invited John Church (the HH compere and
local TV newsreader) to speak about the event.
Roger.
