A minister I knew used to say - "God has no genitals"
A fundamentalist friend used to say - "Well, Jesus was a man and called
God Father"
me, I reckon God has no genitals - but could probably create some if
needed

Here's another thread-starter: when we pray to God as Lord or Father,

I think this kind of language is another example of perpetuating an outdated view of God rather than patriarchal patterns of dominance.
In my view, God is not male and God is not female. In fact, God isn't a being at all but rather the "source of being". So using words like "Father" and "Lord" to describe God, particularly when these are almost the only words used, is extremely unhelpful. At the very least, I think we should be using a true mixture of words to describe God. In preference, I think we should stick to gender-neutral words.
Cheers,
Jonathan
