Hi Greg and others, I'll buy into this. Greg, Mind you, I'm sure it was Ellul who
opened
my eyes to the chaotic.. or unpredictable actions of God in his analyis of the kings
of
Israel/Judah.. the so called pious righteous ones after David/Solomon fared badly!
Similarly the cocnept of 'first born' seems to have been subverted repeatedly; and of
course the non Hebrew names which keep appearing within the geneologies meant to
convey a godly lineage! Paul of course talks about a God who uses the weak to
overturn the strong, non entities to thwart the powerful... so perhaps survival of the
fittest is too simplistic an understanding, not of an evolutioanry God, but of
evolutionary
theory! Concerning prayer, I have lived fro a long time with the recognition that
prayer
in a key sense connects me with God, which is its main purpose.. I ask for what i
will,
and in apparently random ways, some of my requests are answered.. but is this not
how behaviourists argue as the best way to keep the subject alert!!? Our God the
behavourist God?? or am I throwing in red herrings? Cheers,
Louis van Laar
