As simple as ABCD...
UnitingCare NSW.ACT and the NSW Board of Mission are jointly sponsoring a one-day event with Mike Green from the ABCD Institute in Chicago.
It will be held at Paddington Uniting Church, 395 Oxford Street, Paddington, Thursday, December 2, 9 am to 4pm.
What is ABCD?
Asset Based Community Development (ABCD) is a values-driven approach to community development. The values underlying ABCD are that ‘everyone in the community has skills, abilities, talents and experience that they can use in order to make their community a better place to live.’
- Everyone has worth (we are created in the image of God)
- Everyone has gifts and talents to contribute (we are created to be creative)
- Each person’s contribution is valuable
- Grassroots empowerment rather than professional dependency.
Who is Mike Green?
Mike Green is a community organiser, social worker, business developer and founding faculty member of the ABCD Institute. He has worked for over 20 years as a community organiser helping communities create local organizations for development.
Mike has experience developing neighborhood resident organisations, congregation based organisations, and community partnerships to address social and economic issues.
This event is an opportunity to participate in exploring the potential of Asset Based Community Development as a framework for:
- Developing a model for community partnerships
- Rethinking the shape of future church and mission
- Renewing relationships between church, church-based community services and the wider community
