This Friday's release of Insoshi has several improvements and bug
fixes. You can see the details of the commits at
http://github.com/insoshi/insoshi/commits/master
Thanks to contributions from Jorge Dias, we now have contact removal
('unfriending') and a feed activity for changed profile descriptions.
In concert with the latter item, we've added a description preview to
the profile edit page (due to a suggestion by Evan Dorn). We've also
fixed some bugs associated with forum searches and added a note about
HTML/Markdown formatting (also based on Evan's suggestion).
Developers working with the source will also note a new global
preference allowing an 'about' link with a description of the site
(available only to admins), and an elimination of the 'resources'
link. (You'll need to run 'rake db:migrate:both' to get the new
preferences.) These changes are designed to move Insoshi closer to a
platform with drop-in modifications instead of requiring direct
editing of code.
Finally, in preparation for narrowing the focus of the developer site
to more active participants, we're now filtering deactivated users
from more places (contact lists and common contacts)---though only one
person has been explicitly deactivated, the intrepid 'calling' who, it
turns out, was a spammer. We've also added the ability for admins to
send messages to all site users. (Of course, with great power comes
great responsibility, and admins should use this ability sparingly.
As the Insoshi admin, I promise to show restraint.) I'll send out a
global message on Tuesday indicating the requirements for 'active'
use.
The changes are available now on the GitHub branch
(http://github.com/insoshi/insoshi) and will be pushed to the live
site on Tuesday.
