Sorry we didn't note this in the README.  (I've updated it to note the
problem.)  That's a bug in Ultrasphinx, and in fact we have been
unable to get search working with PostgreSQL at this time.  It seems
that, within literally two weeks after switching to
Sphinx/Ultrasphinx, the Cool Kids switched to Sphinx/Thinking Sphinx.
Unfortunately, I can't get Thinking Sphinx to work with Insoshi; it
totally chokes on the Person model for some reason.

In any case, we're working with Heroku on a Secret Project, which
among other things will involve getting acts_as_tsearch working.  So
search is coming soon for Postgres.
