Sorry we didn't note this in the README. (I've updated it to note the problem.) That's a bug in Ultrasphinx, and in fact we have been unable to get search working with PostgreSQL at this time. It seems that, within literally two weeks after switching to Sphinx/Ultrasphinx, the Cool Kids switched to Sphinx/Thinking Sphinx. Unfortunately, I can't get Thinking Sphinx to work with Insoshi; it totally chokes on the Person model for some reason.
In any case, we're working with Heroku on a Secret Project, which among other things will involve getting acts_as_tsearch working. So search is coming soon for Postgres.
