I've had a keyboard AND motherboard replaced - twice!. Mine was not so much a
physically broken keyboard, but a keyboard that had a mind of it's own. It would
randomly and mysteriously execute keyboard shortcuts in windows! It seemed that
any pressure on the palm rest would cause wierd behaviour. And sometimes, you
would get the dreaded N=B which would lock the keyboard up entirely and turn on
CAPS, NUM and SCROLL!
The laptop went off to repair (outsourced to UNISYS) and they botched the repair
even further - they kept ordering the wrong motherboard (ordered I3200 instead
of I3000). We went thru 4 motherboards before finally realising their error.
Needless to say, they copped a serve from me regarding their own stupidity and
wasting my time!
Finally, after getting the original problem fixed, the battery then played up -
I couldn't powerup if both battery and AC were connected; only one or the other
would work. After powerup, I could then attach the other power source, only to
find that the battery was not recharging!
Dell at first simply sent me a new battery. That didn't work.
Then, they suggested I run the battery recalibration program available from the
website. That didn't work.
Then, I convinced Dell to replace the motherboard again. Finally, they agreed,
and replaced the motherboard. Note that this time, they ordered the right one!
So yes, I've had my share of hardware problems. I also have a collegue with an
I3200 who had a similar keyboard problem to mine.
