After reviewing the list archives and the dicussion here, I decided to
stick with Gateway (had them at work for years and my wife has a Solo
2100 which she uses for AutoCAD) and ordered a 9100XL (300MHz, 128M
RAM, 8GB Disk, 14.1 screen, DVD, dual Batteries, LS120/3.5" Floppy)
It arrived today, less than a week after I ordered it and my wife is
picking it up now. Let's compare notes on how the setups go. I also
have 30 days in which to return this boat anchor if I'm not happy. I
will be triple-booting to 98/NT/Linux. I will be purchasing the XIG X
server, but will also play with the SVGA Server. It is possible that
neither machine (Gateway 9100 or Dell 7k) will require a commercial X
Server in the future, as both ATI and Trident have been decent in the
past at providing info for these purposes.
RedHat will get loaded early next week onto its own partition via
CD-ROM (I hope). Please keep us updated at to your progress on your
new 7000.
Anyone know of a list of this kind for Gateway Laptops? I haven't
been near the USENET newsgroups in ages...
