Again, the basics. I think there is a key command that is used to switch
between batteries. Make sure that "both batteries" are "selected" somehow.
I can see a problem if the computer expects there to be a floppy or CD in
that drive bay and instead there is a battery.. It could screw up lots of
things. I'm not even sure if I'm making any sense, but make sure that The
right battery/s are selected for use. Secondly, I'd try (Again I don't
know if this is possible) removing the main battery and seeing if the
computer powers up with teh "secondary" battery attached. Whatever you do
however, i'd HIGHLY suggest doing everything in your power to ensure you DO
NOT have to send your machine back to dell for repair. It's likely to take
you about a month to get back (one broken key on my keyboard took dell 1
month to the day to return to me). *shrug* Good luck, let us know what the
fix was.;)

Subject: Extra Battery on 3000 and lost keyboard

I have just tried using an extra battery on my Inspiron 3000
(266). This second battery goes into the bay used by the floppy or CD
drives. When I boot the machine, I find that I have lost the use of the
keyboard. I am using Red Hat 5.0, but I can't even respond to the LILO
prompt. Linux boots fine, but I can't use it without a keyboard.

        Any ideas?

        Thanks.

-Bruce
