Travis,
I am afraid I have bad news. I had the SAME problem with and Inspiron 3K
(i.e., the HD working just fine under Windoze and giving time out errors under
linux), and it turned out to be a hardware problem, i.e., the hard disk was
faulty. I suggest you run the read/write diagnostic tests from Dell and see what
happens. Chances are that you will need a new hard drive. Good luck!
