Hello,

I have an i3000 with a dual-boot Win95/Slackware 3.5. Since just about
everyone else appears to be running RedHat these days, and it appears
easier to maintain, I recently decided to install RedHat5.2 on a spare
partition. While the installation itself was no problem, I can't get the
modem to dial out:

I have serial port set to "Auto" in the BIOS setup and running

setserial -agv /dev/cua*
setserial -agv /dev/ttyS*

indicates that cua0 and ttyS0 are 16550A's. I had gotten PPP up and
running under Slackware with the help of minicom (and Robert Hart's
great PPP-Howto), using /dev/cua0 to successfully dial my ISP using
Slackware. (I have a 3com CC1560i 56K modem.)
However, when I try using minicom under RedHat to phone my ISP, using
/dev/cua0 or /dev/ttyS0, the dialer just times out and doesn't dial -
not even an audible tone?

If anyone had any ideas, I'd be *very grateful*!

Thanks in advance,

Paul Feehan
