I have a Lenovo Ideapad Y710, and one of the most irritating problems I have
run into when trying to install any operating system that uses GRUB as a
bootloader, is that it makes my DVD-RW drive disappear. This is not specific to
my model of laptop, since I have read numerous threads on people with the same
problem.

This was not that big a problem, as I could always use LILO to overcome the
problem.

The problem with solaris is that is uses GRUB to actually load the image you
need for installation. This causes a problem, since as soon as the image is
loaded (which it does???) the DVD drive is gone and it cannot perform the rest
of the installation. It just bums out at the system maintenance screen.

Now my question is this. Are there any alternative ways to install OpenSolaris?
If so, what are my options. Also, can I use a different bootloader (such as
LILO) to boot my the system, otheriwse I will be unable to use my DVD drive.

Thanks in advance,
Nico
