Hi,

I am a student currently studying compiler technology for my dissertation. I
decided to install OpenSolaris on my blade 1000 as a second test bench for my
compiler. I have hit problems, which prevented me from running opensolaris:

1) OpenSolaris doesn't run on sparc. Wasn't expecting that...

2) OK, so I can run nevada instead. But you threw away the CD installs. SCSI
DVD drives are quite expensive and I sure wont be buying one just to install
nevada. Even if I did have a DVD drive, I don't have a burner.

I think this is probably the same for many students, we have limited money to
spend on hardware. I remember being similarly being upset that I couldn't
install solaris on an ultra 10 because the memory requirements were
exceptionally demanding, 512MB I think? Just to put this in perspective one of
my machines (an embedded box) runs the latest version of OpenBSD (standard
install) comfortably with 64MB of RAM on a 1GB CF.

This concludes my rant. Sorry OpenSolaris was not suitable for me, I would love
to try it some day :(
