Hi,

just LUed to S10u6 with recent patches and created a new sparse zone.
The manual says that it will initially use ~ 100 MB, however it eats
about 1 GB and creation takes a relative long time!
BTW: Older zones are ~ 300 ... 400MB.

So I tried to find the reason for this and it turns out, that
patch backups in /var/sadm/pkg is the main reason for this. Now, the
question is: Why are the du -s * of the zones that much different?
Since all are sparse zones, why are the backups copied to some zone(s)
and not to others?

see: http://iws.cs.uni-magdeburg.de/~elkner/zones/sadm.txt
     http://iws.cs.uni-magdeburg.de/~elkner/zones/pkg.txt
     (web is the new zone).

Also I see, that there seem to be duplicates in those directories, e.g.
admin.apophis /var/sadm/pkg > ll -i SUNWmlib/save/121620-03/undo.Z
SUNWmlib/save/pspool/SUNWmlib/save/121620-03/undo.Z
     26592 -rw-r--r-- 1 root other 150513801 Sep 12 06:22
SUNWmlib/save/121620-03/undo.Z
     26598 -rw-r--r-- 1 root other 150513801 Sep 12 06:22
SUNWmlib/save/pspool/SUNWmlib/save/121620-03/undo.Z

Is this a relict of an ill patchadd? pspool sounds for me like a temp
dir, however, I'm not sure, whether I simply can
/var/sadm/pkg/*/psspool/**/* without loosing patchrm/LU functionality.

Is there a doc, which describes the /var/sadm/pkg structure wrt.
patching as well as zone create functionality wrt. /var/sadm/pkg ?

Thanx,
jel.
