I realize I probably didn't provide quite enough info
This is the DNS error I'm referring to:

opensolaris console login: Dec 16 00:27:23 opensolaris mDNSResponder: 
Unable to
parse DNS server list. Unicast DNS-SD unavailable
Dec 16 00:27:34 opensolaris in.routed[534]: route 0.0.0.0/8 --> 0.0.0.0 
nexthop
is not directly connected.

The external driver worked fine two days ago, when I was running
2008.05, so it's not a bad driver. I finally  removed the card and was
able to complete the install.

It took a few times to get NWAM service enabled, but I'm up and running
and connecting to the Internet, etc.

The solution is simple to me. Don't use the external card. But, I was 
just curious.

Now, all I have to do is get a new eyeglass Rx or figure out how to fix 
the screen resolution
and I'll be all set. : )
