You know, I don't think that this one is *only* an install question -- it's probably a "boot" issue, too, maybe a *UI look & feel* issue. But, since all the cool UI designers seem to hang out here, I'll post it here for discussion.... :-)
I propose that OpenSolaris create an audio "identity" for install/boot time. I'm sure that you have heard these before -- it's the WindowsXP boot sound, or the Macintosh "everything is OK" sound. I believe that both SuSE and Ubuntu have them, too. I think it's our turn to establish an identity, a brand, and show our coolness. And, in addition to that, I'm going to be bold here, and I'm going to *not* suggest that Sun make it. Instead, this could be a really great place for the community to join in! It doesn't require deep kernel knowledge, and it might be a lot of fun. Maybe a contest, where Sun provides a prize? I dunno. The bottom line -- I think we (OpenSolaris) should have an audio identity for boot/install. I did come across an interesting historical article on this, that jogged my thinking. You might enjoy it, too! It's here: http://musicthing.blogspot.com/2005/05/tiny-music-makers-pt-1-intel-inside.html Mike This message posted from opensolaris.org
