I've got a shiny new ASUS M3A78-EMH board with an AMD Phenom 9750 processor and 8GB of PC2-8500 RAM. OpenSolaris 2008.05 LiveCD freezes after nv_86 banner/copyright notice. When booted with '-kv', I see that it get's to PCI enumeration and hangs. The last notice I see is: 'NOTICE: Kernel debugger present: disabling console power management'. When I boot with '-B acpi-user-options=2 -kv', I get to keyboard/mouse (/isa/i8042) enumeration and then hang. Again, with the same power mgmt notice. I can't seem to get past this point.
As far as I can tell, this hardware combination is in working order, and Ubuntu boots just fine. I am aware of the HCL, and this board isn't on it. Unfortunately my old NV machine died, and I replaced it with new (inexpensive) hardware, and I only need the machine to boot long enough to rescue the data of a ZFS zpool. If I have to live without OpenSolaris because of hardware incompatibility, so be it, but I need to rescue my data. I am in the process of downloading NV_90 to see if that gets any further. Anyone got any experience or ideas on how to boot this HW under OSOL? MK This message posted from opensolaris.org
