Yes, and that's my problem with LU: space must be allocated in advance for something that might never be used or needed. That is a major drawback of LU. Current usage model neither accounts for it nor depends on it. What it does affect and hinder is optimal disk space usage. Just like your argument about Flash archives working well for some but being abysmal for others, exactly the same can be written about LU.
