In an ideal world/theory - right. But the real world, our Solaris
experience as well as the pretty often stressed "backward compatibiliy"
"motto?" heared on every official Sun event tought us a different
lesson. And wrt. the huge pile of software [and its part. circular
dependencies] and 'works for me @home' developers I assume, there
will be always packages, which do not fit/need to be fixed/refactored.
And even if one has commercial support, we know, that it'll take
at minimum more than a year, to get it fixed.

So --force is not required in theory, but in the real world definitely!
