That's correct. Note that there's no direct "upgrade" path from SX:CE to OpenSolaris, but it's not impossible to do a conversion by hand. The basic scheme involved is to install OpenSolaris on a new disk, then mount up the old disk with SX:CE on it and spend a few hours poring over the software configuration -- copying over a _few_ files from /etc where it makes sense, installing new packages where you need them, and retesting everything. There are some basic (and somewhat incomplete) instructions available via a quick web search, but every system is a little different. It's the software configuration that's the hardest part to manage, not the mount point juggling. Think of it as a reinstall, not an upgrade. > Find mouse, learn about both root password and jack/jack. Sigh. > > Attempt to sudo to root, but jack isn't in sudoers. Hah! Why even include > sudo? su it is. Root is a role, not an account. Use "pfexec ..." in OpenSolaris and you'll be a little happier. > After that, I attempt to install. I am told by the installer that it can not > Upgrade. Blast! Why EOL something before you can actually migrate from it? Because it's not the same product. It's actually a new one, and completely different in terms of software packaging and maintenance. There's just no path from one to the other. Maybe someday someone will figure out a way to do automate at least some of the conversion process, but I wouldn't want to hold my breath waiting, or (for that matter) camp out on the dying SX:CE branch hoping that it'll be "fixed" before it fades to black. -- James Carlson 42.703N 71.076W <carlsonj at workingcode.com>
