  OpenSolaris uses image packaging, via either /usr/bin/pkg or the
  Package Manager GUI.  You can search for commands and filenames using
  "pkg search [thing you're looking]" or via the search box in Package
  Manager.

  Image packaging understands dependencies and will install required
  components based on your initial request.

  For locate, I believe we elected to offer "slocate", which I've been
  told is better.  It's in the package SUNWslocate.
