I understand this concept. I should rephrase my question and I apologize for

The desired end result is to have an independent clone for AI installs where
internet access to the metadata is not available. Is this possible?

Currently, there's no rsync service and no direct way to turn what you have into an "origin" capable of independently serving packages.

With that said, you can copy specific packages to a repository of your own using the "pkgrecv" command. See the man page for more information.

Please note that the configuration of your repository (default publisher, etc.) should match that of the repository you are copying the packages from. So if you were creating a repository to mirror specific packages from opensolaris.org, you'd want to be certain the publisher prefix was setup as 'opensolaris.org'.

See 'man pkg.depotd' and 'man pkgsend' for more information.
