i run win7 ultimate (evaluation 7100), i will soon be upgrading to
build 7126, and the pre release driver from win update in my opinion
the best you are going to get for the time being. i have tried the
moded drivers for vista with win7 and while trying to game i have to
run at low settings even with spore, when i try to run at medium
anything the games crash. with the pre release driver i can run at
high settings with no slow downs. i would say wait till there is a
modded driver of the pre release. or wait till the "new features" that
are not included in the release clients or evaluation builds comes
out. you WILL be able to get a better gaming expreience. M$ is working
on "gaming compatability" i cant say to much more about this feature
yet, because i dont even know the full details yet. but how things
were explained to me is that the standard compatability mode is mainly
ment for software purposes like older versions of word and other
applications. gaming compatability is supposed to emulate older os
like xp and shut down all unnecessary processesto free system memory,
virtual memory and video memory, making such games like counter strike
source, call of duty 4, and other high demanding games more playable
instead of being "slow". M$ is demanding that win7 to be there best os
and most powerful. they recognize that many people use older systems
and many cant afford to buy new ones so they are trying to make this
worth while instead of being an utter failure like vista.
