They aren't deprecrated that's for sure ;) . Shaders are a big part of
WoW as almost everything you see can almost all be handled by shaders
( weather, pixels, M2( the m2's are npc's and pc's ) and more ).

For some reason , the hardware shaders of the x3100 works better on
WoW than the Software ones ( this is THE ONLY GAME that does that to
my knowledge, every other games I've tried run WAY SMOOTHER with the
software vertex on, and I did test a lot, I'm a FPS freak lol! ), but
the problem is that by default it's set to software by default at the
driver install. Again, Intel screw's up...
