Its used to increase the performance while graphical resolutions are downgraded, it means that while resolution is downgraded the graphical quality wont be dramatically lost. Its to increase the performance and keep quaility at the same time, it was Wisely implemented by intel in their drivers, AND I FORCED THAT FEATURE in my NextGen drivers.
