I couldn't even install Alpha 1 because of a weird lag issue right
after it installed, had to system restore it.
I do agree with you on that inevitable slowdown of a system, but not
so much in the 6 months time frame. If managed properly a windows
system, specially based on vista or 7, will easily last a year without
the need of a format. Of course one has to be careful and watchful
about how and what he installs, but then again there is much less
hassle with a clean format.
I know of M11x, but if you're getting one, get the model that was
released after may and not the previous model with the low voltage
core 2 duo.
I still maintain my opinion, from ps2 go to ps4 skipping ps3 and xbox
360 altogether. There is already a much more powerful dx9 gaming
equipment, it's called personal computer :) and look, now it goes all
the way to dx11 ;)
