And now that dell bought alienware, their xps series is even mightier. The ironic part of it is that after being bought, it is alienware who lost some of that bleeding edge performance, dell being at fault for that. Performance gpus are nvidias, energy saving are atis, as simple as that. A core i5 paired with a gt420 is more than capable for your purposes, as long as you don't get suspiciously unknown brands or acers. It's a machine that's bound to be found at 1000$
