I only have one computer, an old laptop that if something happens to
it, I end up without a computer to use. So I can't afford risk of
hardware failure due to stressing of components.

I'm glad you can indeed push every single bit of performance you can,
but advising others to do so is just not thoughtful at all. The
settings I recommended are the best of both worlds, giving folding
performance on par with more powerful machines, and yet not dangerous
to the point of doing hardware damage.

Again, folders need to make sure their machines have proper cooling,
or at least that they current cooling is in working condition.
