I dont know if your hp accept 4gb, you should check it at instructions
manual. But if it is in the manual you can try using windows x64.
I recently changed my ram to a dual channel 2gb + 2gb, but to work only
installing windows x64.

I think that 2gb and 2gb dual channel changed my game play (using x3100) on
heavy games like fallout 3, i think windows alone can use too much RAM, and
extra ram is always welcome for games.
