What is the exact model of those Sony earbuds? Btw, you ever thought
on getting these?:http://www.amazon.com/Koss-KSC75-Portable-
Stereophone-Headphones/dp/B0006B486K/ref=sr_1_1?

But yes, all integrated sound is terrible, almost on the same level as
integrated graphics, but unlike graphics, sound can't be modded to
sound better if the hardware can't do more by itself.
The issue of the sound getting worse is probably due to the onboard
chip clipping the audio over those values, which is very usual to
happen with low quality gear, even some dedicated audio chips. The X-
Fi Go! Pro has a hissing issue that can't be fixed so far, and anyway
it does have lower specs than the regular Go!.

Forget about that HP with Beats audio, it is awful, and it has more
style than function (again, like Beats gear), specially on the
touchpad. The new M11x is an interesting piece of hardware, with Sandy
Bridge cpus and larger amounts of memory, so if portability is a
factor, then get it as there's nothing that even gets close. But keep
in mind that the sound will still be bad, as unfortunately
manufacturers don't think it's worth spending $5 in better silicon :(
