- Production editing: overseeing the entire production process from start to
finish. Involves budgeting; negotiating with authors; dealing with content;
hiring and managing editors, designers, printers, etc.; determining optimum
printing formats,dealing with printers, etc.
- Structural & stylistic editing: involves major changes to organization,
content and structure
- Copy editing: Fact checking, tightening language, checking grammar,
punctuation and style, ensuring uniformity of references, etc.
- Proofreading: Finding and marking typographical errors (on proofs) using
standard proofreading symbols.
- Revision (or concordance): Comparing different-language versions of the same
text and ensuring uniformity, correctness, etc.
