I was also hesitant about buying things online with a credit card, and I
don't know much about security of sites, but I do know that your credit card
company might affect your decision: I just received the following notice on
my Citibank bill---
"Citibank's online guarantee -- Relax when you shop online with your
citibank card. If your account number is ever compromised you won't be
liable for online purchases charged by someone who is not an authorized
user. That's our guarantee to you."
Sounds pretty good, right? Although I don't know exactly how that would
work... I generally make my decision about whether to buy online based on
how well-known or established the company/web site appears to be.
