I have dealt with similar problems here going from Romani-Latin (Romaneste)
to English. If it is highly Technical, construction components, etc. I
consider
two things: (1) using both values with one in parents and (2) going to
hundreths (or thousandths) decimally for inches when the conversion doesn't
break evenly on the 1/64,1/32,1/16,1/8,1/4,1/2 value standards. Another
option I haven't used is to (3)
footnote the page or document, with a note clearly giving the original
metric values
while applying the conversion to hundreths in the text. The Client is happy
and the poor tech guy who has to work with it losses nothing.
