We use a single mac connected to both our in band and out of band networks.  Works great.  We haven't really had many problems.  Occasionally the machine won't work right on the out of band connection, but a reboot fixes that.  It isn't a problem with IM just the Mac itself.

We even have maps that have both in band and out of band devices on it.  Not really any other problems except the one above.
