Is there any other difference that the presence, by default, of at least one fixed 
address range in manually created networks ? Just unchecking it seems to make a 
manually created network behave like those InterMapper created by itself.

IMHO, there is a need to delete a network. When you move an interface belonging to one 
device, and originally connected to the network InterMapper created just to serve as 
an end point for it, to another network, you leave an orphaned network that one should 
be able to remove.
