I have created a map for every building on our campus, we also have some maps for each server net in our operations center. About 70 maps total.
For each building we may have several network room locations. Some of the larger buildings may have as many as eight network equipment rooms. These rooms contain mostly switches and wireless devices, and may contain routers also. Since we already have 70+ maps, I am trying to avoid creating maps for each network equipment room, and making them sub maps on the building map. What I would like to do if possible, is group device in separate areas of a building map, and possible put a border around it, or just simply place a title/header above the devices that has the closet ID and Room number. I am hoping there is a good way to do this, the only way I could think of, was to add a "non-polling" device (added a device of 0.0.0.0) to the map. Change it's name to be that of the "title/header" information I would like to show up, and place that above the group of devices on the map. So for one building with three network rooms, I added three devices to the map all with the same IP address of 0.0.0.0, and changed their display settings to be Text, with a font size of 12 and Bold. This may work out OK, just wondering if there is a better way of doing this, or if this method would cause any other problems. Thanks Steve
