Thanks Bill,
I tried using the gif converted to png since it was a smaller size but it still didn't show up in IM Remote. I also cleared the icon cache. When I used the same gif converted to jpeg it worked fine!

We don't officially support the "GIF" format in version 4.2.x. It still works in InterMapper Traditional because it's a supported QuickTime format, but we've intentionally disabled GIF's in IM Remote. We hope to support GIF in the next version of InterMapper. Until then, I recommend that you convert the GIF image to PNG or JPEG format.

I'm also new to IM Remote and throw in my 2 cents:
I have custom icons for Airport Base Stations and they show up fine in IM Remote. They have been put into the server as part of the Custom Icon Gathering Project and are stored in the proper place (HD/Library/Application Support/InterMapper Settings/Custom Icons).
I have a custom background ".gif" that does show fine in the native software and on the web site but not in IM Remote. I have tried putting it into .../InterMapper Settings/Images and ...InterMapper Settings/Custom Icons/Backgrounds but it never shows up!
