I agree whole heartily. I'm getting to the point where I really have to think about if we should renew our maintenance contract each year, as I'm constantly having to either write external systems to monitor devices, or commandline probes. Most are non-SNMP based, and the documentation is not much better than nothing. The fact that you cant even update a devices display name automatically unless its SNMP is ridiculious. The whole reason we purchased intermapper was to migrate away from my home-grown system, but as it is, we're using my home grown system more than intermapper because the functionality just isnt there.
The only saving grace, and the reason we renewed for another year is because I have a feeling that SQL support is just around the corner, hopefully they don't screw up that part, as thats what I'm really waiting for. It'll be easier to maintain 1 database of switches, routers, and servers rather than two. Then my second homegrown system can fetch names and IPs out of the database. Then all I have to do is wait a few more years for maybe a 3rd party to come up with a working probe builder app to get other things to work. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] on behalf of Manny Gonzalez Sent: Wed 5/16/2007 5:06 PM To: InterMapper Discussion Subject: Re: [IM-Talk] Custom Probe Builder App Pedro I agree... this would sweeten the deal for many folks. We have a lot of obscure stuff... even have developed our own probes but it is not that easy for a lot of folks in our groups to develop. A nice simple gui where you can open the MIB from the device/manufacturer on the left and drag and drop to a probe on the right... simple, would be a GREAT start. Nothing fancy :-) By the way, Jose Cabrera says hello... MG
