Rich,

This is excellent news. We here at NYP continually implement new and obscure devices that we would love to monitor beyond the basic OIDs and do sometimes go out of our way to modify an existing probe to create a custom one. We don;t publish ours due to their UGLINESS :-) or other reasons... We may just send you our Liebert one(s) and if we get one made up for our new RamSan, we'd be glad to publish them as well.

A nice tool would go a LONG way to build more probes by the community. Right now it is very doable and somewhat easy, but very tedious (at least for me) It is very straightforward XML, but like I said, tedious..

Thanks for your support
Manny

P.S. I am definitely interested in alpha testing the new tool :-)

Thanks for the comments. It's true that we abandoned the old Custom Probe
Builder program: despite the GUI, it wasn't very easy to use. It also got left
behind with the changes - and significant enhancements - that we were adding to
the custom probe facilities.

A nice simple gui where you can open the MIB from the device/manufacturer on the
left and drag and drop to a probe on the right... simple, would be a GREAT start. Nothing fancy :-)

In the upcoming InterMapper 4.6, we are making a significant step toward this.
It's not drag and drop, but we have made it much easier to enter the OID (or the
name) of a MIB variable into a probe and monitor it or set thresholds on it.

We are getting close to a beta-test release which will be available to the
world. Please send a note to [EMAIL PROTECTED] if you'd like to get started
with the alpha-test right away.

Thanks again.
